This book was written with four major beliefs in mind:

• It is important for teachers to have a clear understanding of the integral role the Mathematical Processes play in planning, instruction, and assessment.  
• Understanding how the Mathematical Processes are used to create assessments will help teachers design experiences that prepare students for those assessments.
• When students understand how the Mathematical Processes are used to create assessments, it improves their ability to approach and solve problems.  
• Providing teachers with a blueprint for creating manageable assessment tasks will build the teacher’s capacity to create valid assessments aligned to the Mathematical Processes.
