The Men Who Lived Forever - Dylan Scott Tuccillo
In the middle of the night, Jeff Martin wanders out into the snow towards Coney Island, and he's not alone-he's accompanied by the Devil, and Jeff is sure he's being ensnared in a trap.
The Men Who Lived Forever is a work of magical realism with elements of dark fantasy, written for adults. The novel follows Jeff Martin, a New York City therapist who becomes entangled in a plot orchestrated by one of his patients-the Devil himself. It recalls recent works such as The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and Midnight Library, in that it also balances a grounded sense of reality with glimmers of enchantment.
Jeff is a therapist for New York City's elite, and throughout the years he's had some strange clients. But the Devil is his strangest client of all. To make matters worse, Jeff's going through a personal crisis, triggered by a painful breakup.
When they arrive in Coney Island, the Devil has a surprise-a few of Jeff's former patients are there to meet them. The Grim Reaper, Blackbeard the Pirate, the Buddha, an elderly Elvis Presley, and an imposing figure in black furs who calls himself the Big Man. Each one is a piece in the Devil's dangerous puzzle-Jeff is sure of it. Meanwhile, Jeff's own mental state takes a nose dive as memories of his failed relationship rise to the surface.
Jeff struggles to solve this puzzle, to figure out the Devil's plan, but he's running out of time. They've reached Stony Point Park, a dark and icy pier on the edge of the city, and Jeff is presented with a choice.
