The Corpse Flower Colony - Katherine Dempster

At the turn of the nineteenth century, a group of eleven superstitious families from a small coastal village could see the writing on the wall. The world was changing, and they were not ready to be a part of what they saw building. The Edgar's slice of land in Scotland would be the best place to live as they saw fit, even as Flora, the newly pregnant wife of Samuel Edgar, protested the idea. She begged them to see how the sea journey and starting anew on unbroken land would be just as perilous as staying put were ignored. A sudden storm and shipwreck on a desolate island proved Flora's worries to be true.

Over a century later, Amelia Taylor is a fifth-generation member of the strict and paranoid society that believes themselves to be cursed. Governed by the Privy Assembly, comprised of descendants of the original families, the power they wield makes leaving the island unthinkable.
