Frederick Harlencinchester is an ordinary farmer from 18th century Holland, who boards a passenger ship, called "The William". He attempts to sail to Prussia to seek out a life of adventure and possibly become a sailor. However, one fateful night a terrible storm hits the ship and ultimately changes Frederick's life forever. All of a sudden he is given a commission as a naval captain.
