During World War I, President Masaryk of Czechoslovakia created a policy of enlightened democracy that caught the attention of Europe and America. He believed that tyranny cannot permanently conquer and that truth will ultimately prevail. He saw clearly, however, that democracy must create for itself a spiritual discipline, that it must solve the problems of living, that it must present a unified outlook on existence.
