Scott Walter Sir

Waverley V1 is a novel written by Sir Walter Scott, first published in 1814. It tells the story of Edward Waverley, a young English soldier who is sent to Scotland during the Jacobite uprising of 1745. There, he becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Highlanders and the British army, and falls in love with a beautiful Highland girl named Flora Mac-Ivor. Along the way, he also meets a cast of colorful characters, including the cunning chieftain Fergus Mac-Ivor and the brave warrior Evan Dhu. The novel is a sweeping historical epic, full of adventure, romance, and political intrigue. It is considered one of Scott's greatest works, and helped to popularize the historical novel as a genre. As Waverley moved on, here and there an old man, bent as much by toil as years, his eyes bleared with age and smoke, tottered to the door of his hut, to gaze on the dress of the stranger and the form and motions of the horses, and then assembled, with his neighbours, in a little group at the smithy, to discuss the probabilities of whence the stranger came and where he might be going. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
