The Galactic Festival - Paul Holmes

The Galactic Festival - Paul Holmes

  • Puzzles
  •   How do Gravity Trains work?

  •   Is it possible to cross all the bridges just once?

  •   Can an infinite hotel ever be truly full?

  •   Why do left and right reverse in a mirror when up and down do not?

  •   Which asymmetric dice should you choose?

  •   Why are digital roots so useful?

  •   Can you survive a bite from a Logonian mamba?

  •   How many infinities are there?

  •   And just how many fingers do Trellians actually have?

These questions and many others are explored in Paul Holmes’ second volume of puzzles. Written as a science fiction story with a twist, each chapter is a separate puzzle, involving mathematics, logic, anagrams, physics, word play, number theory and a cipher.

The chapters are interspersed with much shorter brain teasers (including Where in the World Am I?, What Comes Next?, Wordy Interludes, General Knowledge quiz questions and a Word Search) especially designed for those with only a few minutes to spare.

About The Galactic Festival

Interstellar trader, “Captain” Jim Singleton, lives in Yorkshire but spends most of his time in space bars, on sinister planets far from the civilising influence of the Empire, or visiting the wonderful Galactic Festival on the third moon of Logon Alpha.

In his nippy little space rover, The Centurion Eagle, he visits the Festival, takes in the sights and the culture, meets a new alien, rides a gravity train, watches Rugby with his friends, and indulges his passion for puzzles. But things go slightly pear-shaped when he tries to return to his beloved home town following an afternoon pursuing the dangerous activity of time-warping at the Maelstrom, an anomalous space-time vortex on Zeta. But will he even notice, and what awaits him when he returns?
