Jamie Carter was lucky to make it past his 10th birthday.
From the time he was a young child, freak accidents had almost robbed him of his life. If it wasn't for something seemingly Divine saving him at the last second, the Entity that seemed to chase Jamie most of his life, would have succeeded.
From the age of about 3 years-old, Jamie suffered accidents that left him electrocuted, with broken bones, beaten by a shameless step-father, almost dragged by a subway and basically drowned by riptide at Coney Island, all before Jamie turned 10.
In Jamie's late teens and early 20s, the pain of his childhood years, manifested in consistent binge drinking and recreational drugs in his downtime away from work.
It was as if his childhood memories would never leave him and Jamie did whatever he could to escape mentally while trying to live a normal life, meanwhile creating boxes of depression in his mind that would be opened later, when he least expected, to revisit those memories again in his 30s and 40s and wonder why his unfolded as it had.
Now older, these close calls continue to happen in Jamie's life. Who or what was saving Jamie? How long could this benevolent Spirit keep Jamie alive and win this battle for just one more soul, meant to be on Earth to nurture and save one more life and defeat the Entity that needed to strike Jaime's soul down for a reason yet unknown?
Looking back, Jamie Carter always felt like some truly Evil was always trying to steal his soul from this Earth; keeping him from a life of joy, wealth and happiness, agitated whenever he carried out the good deeds in his heart.
Life-long struggle, injuries, accidents, mental and physical illness and recovery kept Jamie away from success and happiness for decades.
His struggle through a hazy sea of booze, bad luck, drugs, depression, heart breaking relationships and bad choices kept him on the brink of collapse. As Jamie almost dies several times, it seems there is something divine, always saving him.
At his worst moments near death, he is lifted up to once again recover and live to find out what the dark shadows are that haunt him by a random encounter with a woman who can see into the darkness and possibly save Jamie's life before it's too late.
