Aeschylus

Agamemnon is a Greek tragedy written by Aeschylus in 1879. It is the first play in a trilogy called The Oresteia, which also includes The Libation Bearers and The Eumenides. The play tells the story of Agamemnon, the king of Argos, who returns home after ten years of fighting in the Trojan War. However, his wife, Clytemnestra, plots revenge against him for sacrificing their daughter, Iphigenia, before the war. She kills Agamemnon and his mistress, Cassandra, with the help of her lover, Aegisthus. The play explores themes of justice, revenge, and the consequences of actions. It also introduces the concept of the curse of the House of Atreus, which follows the family through the rest of the trilogy. Agamemnon is considered one of the greatest works of Greek tragedy and has been influential in Western literature and drama. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
