Fraud and Friendship or The Orphan and the Foundling of the King's Printing House: An Edinburgh Tale is a novel written by David Pae in 1857. The story is set in Edinburgh, Scotland, and revolves around two young boys, an orphan and a foundling, who become friends while living in the King's Printing House. The boys are raised by the printer and his wife, who treat them kindly and provide them with a good education. However, as the boys grow older, they become involved in a web of deceit and betrayal. The orphan, who is named William, discovers that his father was not actually dead as he had been told, but was living in Edinburgh. He sets out to find him, but is betrayed by his friend, the foundling, who steals his money and runs away.William is left alone and penniless, but he refuses to give up. He eventually finds his father and discovers that he is a wealthy man. However, he also learns that his father has been involved in fraudulent activities and is wanted by the authorities. William must decide whether to turn his father in or help him escape.Meanwhile, the foundling, whose name is James, has fallen in with a group of criminals and is living a life of crime. He eventually realizes the error of his ways and decides to turn his life around. He reunites with William and helps him confront his father.Fraud and Friendship is a tale of friendship, betrayal, and redemption. It explores the themes of honesty, loyalty, and the consequences of one's actions.
