Meanwhile, life vies for her attention: two of her appliances break and her oldest son gets suspended from school. Tommy Rowland, her brother-in-law's friend, steps in to help. He's handy with tools and great with kids ... and has a smile that could kill.

Tommy can't wait to get back to policework after an embarrassing accident causes him to lose his finger. Helping Pearl with her home repairs and her kids will keep his mind off his boredom, and Pearl is a delicious distraction.

As the holiday party nears, the chemistry between them heats up. Just when Pearl starts to believe maybe she can have it all-and Tommy goes back to work-everything falls apart.
